THE KLINGONS ARE AT IT AGAIN
Every month, on the last Thursday of the month, we play Federation Commander at the shop. This is the miniatures game that simulates starship combat in the Star Trek universe (the original series ‘verse – Kirk, Spock, etc.). With this month’s game coming up next week, I felt I probably should get the pictures of last month’s game up.
It was as great scenario – a Federation colony has had an outbreak of a mutant virus. Our Federation task force (of three ships) was sent to either 1) find a cure and save the colony, or 2) rescue the survivors and transport them in quarantine. Of course the Klingons had other ideas – either destroy all of the Federation vessels before they could help the colonists, or simply to destroy the colony from orbit.
All of the ships were smallish in size, ranging from frigates to light cruisers and all commanders were allowed to coordinate their actions with the others in their battle group.
The Klingons made an immediate pass over the colony straight away and did significant damage to it. The Feds were not able to approach the planet quick enough to prevent the Klingons from putting themselves between the Feds and the colonists. This meant it would come down to a slugfest…
And slugfest it was, except the one problem with slugfests and lighter, smaller ships – things go BOOM real quick. After a couple of turns of ferocious volleys there were several ships near dead in space on both sides. Only through the daring actions of a brave young destroyer commander (J) on the Fed’s part were they able to arrive at, and deliver, a cure to the colonists.
All-in-all it was a great game with all of the usual players (Jeff P, Chris L, Mike Z, Ron D, Aaron and Dave) providing plenty of entertainment as the game went along. I can’t wait for this month’s scenario – something involving a Killer Probe… it should be good!
Until next time…
Cheers & Happy Thanksgiving!
