INFANTRY BATTLES BLITZKRIEG COMMANDER STYLE...
A couple of Thursdays ago we had some great games going on at the store. Todd and Nick were working through some infantry scenarios using Blitzkrieg Commander in 15mm. Todd was the Germans defending somewhere in Italy around fall of 1944 (I believe) and Nick was the advancing Americans.
They played two battles which were hotly contested. In both games they were using the new "Hidden Objective" cards that we all have been trying out. The Germans won the first battle when the Americans overcommitted their forces to one flank, and then received a change in their orders (a new objective). The German's easily completed their objective, while the Americans weren't able to make the adjustments to their new orders fast enough, and thus were forced to withdraw and regroup.
I am not sure who won the second game (as I was by now tied up in my own game), but it appeared to be a much more balanced game that came down to the wire.
HEADLINE: ROMULAN BATTLEFORCE AMBUSHES FEDERATION PATROL NEAR THE BORDER
As the Americans and Germans were slugging it out across the way, I was being drawn into serve as a Romulan starship captain trying to fend off an incursion by an Imperialist Federation fleet. Jeff P., Chris L., Mike Z., Ron D. and newcomer Dave had decided to play a game of Federation Commander. Jeff, Dave and I were teh Romulans while Chris, Mike and Ron were the Feds.
The game started out pretty good for the Romulans, with the Federation ships breaking up their formation in an attempt to get some shots on the fast moving light Romulan ship (me). It gave us Romulans a real opportunity to put the hurt on them nasty Feds. Unfortunately, nothing went our way after that.
The Feds got in a ton of lucky shots on the Romulan drednaught, rendering it almost useless. To Jeff's credit he did fly it skillfully after that trying hard to get back into the fight. But shortly after that Dave's heavy cruiser took salvo after vicious salvo from the Feds, whihch eventually forced it to explode. I tried hard for the rest of the game to come around and get into the fight, but the entangled ships just kept moving farther away from me. Eventually I did manage to get in a few licks (I believe Chris' dreadnaught was the recipient of that) but it was just too little too late. in the end the Romulans were forced to withdraw giving the Feds a pretty handy victory.
All in all, everyone had a great time. In fact we agreed to make the last Thursday of each month the official Federation Commander game of the month. The next one will be Thursday the 27th. Come on up and join in if you are interested, everyone is always willing to teach the game to new folks!
Well, enough for this time. Untill next time...
Cheers!
Dan
