VILLAGE FAIRE DAYS
We tried out a new idea at the store recently that we are hoping could become somewhat of a regular thing – a Village Faire.
The concept is a day devoted to a particular genre or family of games that we carry, enjoy, or would like to spread the word about. The activities for the day might include demo games, tournaments, “mega-battles”, painting workshops, prize giveaways, special promotions, and so forth.
Our first Faire was held on Sunday June 3, and was dedicated to all things Games Workshop. We had demo games (
the Lord of the Rings table was very popular), a 40K tournament and painting workshops.
The response and turn-out was great! There were almost two dozen people participating in the events at any given time during the day (
and that doesn’t include any of the other events going on that day – it did get quite crowded at times). I have interspersed a few of the pictures from the Faire to give a taste of what was going on.
In the 40K tournament, prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place as well as Best General, Best Painted Army, and Best Sportsman. There were even consolation prizes for those who didn’t get any of the other prizes. Robb Smith was the over all winner with his impressively painted, and played, army of Tyranids.
In terms of the painting workshops, our resident professional painter Kerry Holt had quite a crowd around him all day as he offered painting advice and assistance. There were even people taking written notes as he explained things!
Overall the day seemed to be a big success.

Everyone we talked to said they had a great time and would like to see more of these days. I think with the response we received there will definitely be more of the Village Faires – maybe a “Historical” day, or a generic “Sci-Fi” day, or maybe even a generic “Fantasy” day with a costume contest, eh? Let us know what you think.
Until next time…
Dan
