The Cold War Goes On…
I played another game of
Cold War Commander last Saturday. This time it was 1982 and the Americans were trying to prevent a Soviet river crossing somewhere in West Germany. I was the Soviets and George Hord was the Americans.
The Americans started out very well, knocking out a few BMP’s and T-72’s as the Soviet tank company advanced up the road. The Soviets, after a brief delay in getting the offensive started, finally managed to get things rolling and push towards the river.
Eventually time ran out at a point in the game when it wasn’t clear whether the Soviets would be able to force the crossing or the Americans would hold, so we called it a draw. In terms of losses, the Russians lost almost two entire platoons of tanks and close to a company of infantry while the Americans lost one of their two tank platoons and a couple of Dragon ATGM’s, but not much else.
The best part is I had my camera with that day so I have some pictures (
note the extensive fireballs created by the vehicles – all must have had extra ammunition and fuel on board
):
Until next time…
