We recently received a preview copy of the new Ork Stompa from Games Workshop, which we promptly handed over to one of our pro-painters (Casey L.). Aafter apparently fighting for several hours with construction (not to mention having to sacrifice a few chickens to the modeling gods J), he was able to bring it up to the shop and begin the process of painting the great beast.

I must say the model is really impressive with lots of detail, bitz and interesting molded parts. It is fairly large, standing a good 12” or more tall. To paint it Casey decided to start with his airbrushes – something he has only recent begun to seriously dabble in – and work to brush detailing.

What you are seeing in these pictures is his work in progress. He has coated the whole model in a grey primer, a base coat of black and a light translucent red layer. He then went in and detailed the plates and equipment with a dark red to start building up to the final color.

All of this he has been doing with fairly inexpensive Testors airbrushes – the broader base coating single action starter model and the fine detail companion starter. Amazing so far isn’t it?

Well, I will try to post more in progress pics as he progresses. Until then…

Keep your brushes pointed!
