STOKED FOR THE ANNIVERSARY
We are getting really excited for our 5th Anniversary Celebration this Saturday. We have over 36 games scheduled throughout the day (in three-hour blocks; there will be as many as nine different games running at any given time – a bit of a mini-convention of sorts I guess); There will be a complimentry continental breakfast for the early risers, a giant anniversary cake for later in the day and a bunch more things in store.
Personally I will be running a couple of demo games of the Combat Cards – one WWII small unit action, and one a modern hostage rescue skirmish. I am also hoping to get to play in a couple of other games myself, but I will have to see how time I will have with so many things going on.
SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE PAST & THE FUTURE
We made it five years, pretty amazing in what most people agree is a very tough industry to survive. And not only did we survive; we have flourished to some degree! We have dramatically increased the breadth and selection of our inventory; added very nice gaming facilities (e.g. large terrain tables, separate card and miniatures rooms, etc.); added other extras to enhance your experience at the shop (e.g. over 60 different choices of sodas to chose from, sandwiches, bakery goods, etc.) and positioned ourselves for what we believe to be an even more exciting future.
Of course none of this would have been possible without our (almost fanatically) dedicated customers. They have stuck with us through the tough times, celebrated with us in the good times and encouraged us with their ideas, suggestions and enthusiasm. They have even gone so far as to roll up their sleeves and help us out when we just needed an extra set or two of hands. To all of those folks we say an absolutely heartfelt thank you! Without the help and support of everyone, I don’t know that we would have made it this far.
As for the future, all I can say is hold on tight! Carl and I have a ton of ambitious plans for the shop. Only time, and our stamina, will really limit what we get done over the next five years. Even with the sluggish economy, gaming is still an excellent value. Where else can you invest so little and get so much entertainment value in return (e.g. hours of creativity prepping and painting your armies, planning and discussing strategies, building new and unique decks, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones, not to mention the competitive stimulation of tournaments)?
So to all those who have helped us come this far – thank you again! For all of those who wish to join us for the future – welcome! It has been a wild ride, and only looks to get more interesting with time…
Hope to see you all at our Celebration on Saturday the 1st!
Until next time…
Happy Gaming!
Dan
PS: As an added bonus, check out these shots from our grand opening five years ago. Then compare these to the most recent shots on the web page – quite a difference, eh? These shots are courtesy of Hinterwelt Enterprises (makers of great RPG’s) from their very positive review of us when we first opened. Thanks guys!
