A LOOK AT THE FUTURE???
Recently the Saturday modern micro armor guys put on a battle with very relevant implications. They were simulating the invasion of some large (non-occupied, almost nuclear) middle-eastern country by some other (anonymous) western nations. In the interests political sensitivities (as we have quite a few reader from around the world it appears) I’ll be no more specific, as it isn’t really important to enjoying the pictures of the game. J

The scenario was laid out in a pretty straight-forward fashion with a massive assault by the western powers, and a defense in depth for the middle-eastern nation. The attackers were tasked with crossing to the battlefield as quickly as possible, while destroying as many of the enemy as possible. The middle-eastern nation was charged with destroying as many of the high-tech invaders as they could, given their comparatively low-tech but more numerous force. One other objective of the game was to test the viability of a Striker Brigade as an assault force against a determined foe.

The battle started with a bang - the casualty smoke was popping up everywhere! The western force immediately became bogged down from heavy enemy fire; the attackers were inflicting stiff casualties on the defenders, but at a cost of forward progress. At times there was so much high-powered fire being traded it was hard to tell if anyone even had an advantage.

Eventually the superior equipment began to take a toll on the valiant, but overwhelmed defenders. By the end of the game the attacker’s advance was beginning to pick up momentum and the conclusion seemed inevitable.

In any event, the players seemed to have a great time and the whole battle was a bit of an eye-opener. Not to mention there were a couple of nice armies on the table (except maybe the members of the 7th "Primer Only" battalion). Hopefully the guys will run some other timely and topical scenarios in the near future.

Until next time…
Tally Ho!
